Up the Nose.. Here is goes?

As the day closes  my kids love me! Not that they don’t always love me but they love me a little more tonight. We went to the doctors today for the flu shot. I am a diabetic and I have 2 children. We have to get the shot. I am used to shots. My kids not so much. I probably look like a terrible mother in the doctors office as my kids sit there panicking and I am not real sympathetic at all. I look and say “Guys mom takes shot everyday and sticks her fingers….Suck it up right NOW!!!”  They stare at me like i am crazy:)

Today however when we arrived at office and my 8yo already has herself  in a panic before we even enter – We learn that there are no shots yet. They have not been delivered. However we do have a nasal spray – A Flu Mist.  A huge smile appears on both kids faces and “pppllease mom’s” start coming as they learn this Flu Mist is not a shot.  I go ahead and agree to let them take the Flu Mist.

My 8yo is told she must go first.  She is still happy but begins to panic yet again. How does this work. Up the nose. You have to sniff like you are breathing in chocolate or pretty flowers says the nurse. Now this is fast and easy so we pretty much just do it in the waiting room in the allergy clinic.

They bring out the syringes and my 8yo is fretting getting nervous. They put it up her nose, push the syringe, and tell her to sniff in.  She begins to repeatedly sniff in so hard over and over and over and over to the point she almost passes out. The nurse chuckles and says “it’s ok 1 sniff in is good, you are ok now. See that wasn’t so bad?” They do the other side and she does much better now knowing how it works. All the parents sitting in the waiting room are loving watching my 8yo take the Flu Mist. It has been entertainment for their morning.

My 4yo steps up next. After watching her sister do it she takes it like nothing. No problems at all. She turns around and smiles real big knowing she did well:)

Both get stickers and say they are never ever getting shots again. They want the up the nose flu stuff from now on!!!!!
