A Marvelous Miley Night!

Posted on 27 November 2009

Five months ago my oldest daughter Allie turned 8. With help from my mom and step-dad we bought tickets and told her she would be going to her first concert – Miley Cyrus! Boy was there excitement and screaming going on in the house at that moment. The catch though, was a lesson in patience. The month was June, and the concert wasn’t happening until November – A long wait for an 8yo who already has absolutely no patience whatsoever. She did surprisingly well though. She collected $45 from her birthday and we put that aside for a t-shirt at the concert. I think that was the hardest part for her. We would be in the store and she would want a candy bar and want her money. I would explain to her that she could get that candy bar but than she may not get a Miley T-shirt. The choice was hers. She would sit and struggle but in the end the money would stay with me and be saved. :)

So November came, I had the concert marked on the calendar, and we counted down the days! Now most of you probably don’t know, but I am NOT a big fan of driving. Everyone makes fun of me, saying that I only drive an hour or so out from where I live (a little exaggerated). With that in mind when we bought the tickets I asked my husband to drive Allie and I. We bought just two tickets. We were going to the show in Greensboro, NC. It is about a 2 hour drive. I think the driving part is not what bothers me, it’s once you get into the city. Either way Jason was all gung-ho until it was time to actually do it. That’s when he realized that he was going to be sitting around for hours on end waiting for us to get finished. None the less he drove us.

She was excited, as was I. I’ve always hoped my love of music would rub off onto the kids. This is Allie and I in the car on the drive down.

It did start raining on the drive down but that didn’t hinder us!

The drive was not bad at all. Hardly any traffic. Once we got into Greensboro it was still pretty good. This was were it got a little sticky though. Trying to figure out what to do so we didn’t lose Jason by the end of the show. We had heard about this parents’ room that was being provided but we weren’t sure if Jason would be allowed in without paying. He did not want to pay for parking only to not be allowed in. His plan was to drive around the city for a bit but NOT after having to pay for a parking space.

We ended up having to pay for parking, so we all went in. The Greensboro Coliseum is a very nice place. Of course Allie’s excitement was building and she was wanting to get going. We needed to find some food and such. Little did she know though we were there 2 hours early so we had a little time to kill. Again another lesson in patience right?

They had Miley pictures all over the place so I took a couple pictures, some with Allie in them. I was not able to take my big camera so I was stuck using my point ‘n shoot and phone, which did alright but I still think I could find something to do better. Oh well.

Good news! Jason was able to go to parents’ room. He actually enjoyed himself. It worked out great! He didn’t have to leave the coliseum and we were able to find him at the end very easily. However in my mind I am thinking “how old are these kids that the parents are leaving to go to a concert alone?” Maybe… maybe, if Allie were 17 I would sit in a room, but I don’t know.

The T-shirt lines were very loooong! I was not looking forward to standing in that so Allie gave Jason her money and while we went through the ticket line and in the doors he stayed out and got Allie her t-shirt. That worked out perfectly!

Once Allie and I got inside we found some food that cost me at least an arm :) We found our seats where we sat for the next 1.5 hours. Ha that was great. Allie was not thrilled about that but I was happy cause we did not get stuck in any car traffic or people traffic. As time went on the coliseum filled and it got loud! Allie and I took this time to talk about concerts and what happens.

Here is a picture of her eating the expensive chicken :)

Here is one of her in front of the stage. I think this is one of my favorites!

I myself, fell in love with the ushers. This was one of them. I thought he was so cute ushering people to their seats at a Miley Cyrus concert. I wonder what he thinks of her music :)

I have to take a moment and talk about the lady and her family that sat next to us. I was very lucky because Allie and I got the end seats which was awesome. It made it easy to get in and out if need be. While sitting for as long as we did I began chatting to the mother beside us. She was there with her husband and her two children. She seemed really friendly and nice when I first started chatting. They were from the area and had come to see Miley/Hannah when she came through the first time as well as a High School Musical event. The mom told me how enjoyable they were and was hoping this was going to be just as great. However she actually didn’t like concerts. She made the statement that she really disliked the loud noise and dancing. She made the statement that once Miley came out everyone was going to be standing and that was just a pain in her rump. As I sat listening I started to become afraid to even move. She asked me “Hey if you don’t scream then I won’t either”. I then said that this was my daughter’s first concert and I couldn’t promise anything. I have to say for most of the concert she either sat or stood with a hood on and earplugs in. It was so very interesting :) Her youngest daughter also didn’t like noise so she wore a pair of earplugs too. I sat in awe because we were at a Miley concert with A LOT of young girls that screamed for most of the concert. Hmmm?

Finally the concert began. Again I had some explaining to do when Metro Station came out first to open for Miley. Allie did not know that the opening band was going to play more than one song. In her mind she was there to see Miley and wasn’t understanding what the heck these guys were doing on stage for so long :) After my explanation though Allie was fine and we really enjoyed their music. We also learned that the singers Trace Cyrus and Mason Musso are related, in a way, to Miley. Trace is Miley’s brother and Mason is Mitchel Musso’s brother. Mitchel stars on the Hannah Montana show. Allie and I both thought that pretty cool.

After Metro Station finished, it was not long before Miley hit the stage! I thought she did a fantastic job. I can’t really say anything negative. She sang and performed wonderful!

I thought her stage set up was awesome. She did a lot of neat little tricks or what I call tricks – flying in the air, rising up on a pedestal, etc. I am going to just put up some of the Miley pictures I have now and explain them as I put them up.

She opened up the show with “Breakout” Here is a picture from that song…

When she sang “Fly on the Wall” she, towards the end of the song hooked up and swang out over the audience. One of the cool parts of the show.

A “Girl’s Night Out”

One of our favorite parts was when Miley sang “I Love Rock and Roll.” I of course sang all the words :) and we were both amazed when the motorcycle Miley was on lifted up and floated over top of the audience! Pretty COOl!

My most FAVORITE moment and my new favorite song of hers is called “Bottom of the Ocean”

She had the screens up that looked like the ocean and they had fish going across them. It got to a point in the song and the middle screen which was square shaped raised a little. She backed up to it and said “this it it” and with that fell in to the hole that was underneath the screen. She disappeared and the screen came back down. When it did that there was Miley swimming in the ocean! I just thought the way it was done was so neat!

Here she is falling into the “ocean” or hole

Here she is swimming – the best shot i could get :) sorry

Her last song she did was “The Climb” It was dedicated to her bus driver that she and her team lost a few days before they arrived in Greensboro. I have a video of it that I will post. It is of course not a great quality at all. I more have it for allie and I to remember but will share this last song for the end of my post.  We had a blast and thank Miley for doing a great job. I am so glad that Allie had such a wonderful time at her first concert!
