An AWESOME Tyler Hilton Night!

Posted on 11 November 2009

Ok so i wrote this a few days ago and have been waiting to post it and I am really excited!……

So last night which would be November 7th, 2009, I had the privilege of going to go see the Wonderful Tyler Hilton and his band perform. To see this I would be excited no matter what. Due to specific circumstances. I am still beyond ecstatic :)

Here is a little background information. I know background can be boring but I want to tell because it is important to me. I probably have the same story as most of the pretty females that follow him do ;)

but here is how it starts….

I first saw him play his role as Chris Keller on One Tree Hill. I am only a recent fan to OTH of about a year and a half. So, when I saw Tyler for that first time I thought hmm… cute and he looks like he would sing good and like a guy a know! Let me explain. I have a friend who plays guitar and I love his voice. My friend just has a smooth wonderful voice. Back to Tyler’s voice – this is what I expected. When I first heard him sing though that is not what I heard. Tyler’s voice I felt had this beautiful raspiness, roughness (if that’s the word Ha!). There was soul. It was different that what I had initially thought would come out and I loved that!!! I guess after saying that some may call me weird. But from there I fell in love with the music! I ended up finding and buying Tyler songs and did down the road find a  Tyler Hilton website of his that keeps me up to date. So that is exciting.

So on the website I saw places Tyler would be coming to sing and Norfolk, VA was one. I thought that was cool. I live in Lynchburg, VA which is about 3 hours maybe from Norfolk. Lynchburg is a small town and most famous big people don’t really stop by on there way around touring and such. Norfolk however is a bigger city. So I made the plans and set up arrangements so Jason and I could travel out to Norfolk and go see Tyler. I was thrilled and wonderful Jason tolerates it :) But when it got closer to the time I saw a post that Tyler was having to cancel the trip due to work on his new album that will be coming out this new year. So yes I was sad :( and happy at same time. A new album..awesome.. bring on some more Tyler music – I love. But I had really wanted to see Tyler sing live. I am a sucker for the live music.

Time went on and just about 5 weeks ago I guess I am checking the Tyler website and I see Tyler will be coming to Lynchburg College In Lynchburg, VA. Say What? He was not on tour and little ole Lynchburg is surrounded by bigger places, i.e. D.C, Norfolk, Raleigh, NC, ect.  Jason was not happy to be in the house. My stomach flipped upside down – I said “Jason get over here and read this. Does this say Lynchburg? Are you sure it says Lynchburg?” As sad as it sounds I think I was in shock a bit. Here I was thinking it is going to be forever till Tyler goes on tour and I would get the chance to see him again after the canceled Norfolk trip and now he is coming to sing pretty much in my backyard! I was so Freaking excited. So that led to the night Nov. 7th when Tyler and awesome band played at Lynchburg College.

I took two of my girlfriends and my husband and our friend Matt went as well. It was a big bunch and that was pretty cool. They are all familiar with Tyler’s music because I play it in the house and dance and sing so it was cool to bring all to see him live. Matt and Jason sat on bleachers for the show and I and girls got to stand in the front! Ok this was a big deal for me because I have never been able to do that at any concert. So again my stomach was doing all kind of flips once again. To have band and Tyler right in front – pretty darn cool.

His opening act was a man named Dane Ferguson. A man and his guitar and he was really good. It was his moms birthday so we all joined in singing Happy Birthday to her. He played a few of his own songs and a few cover songs as well. I thought he did a very good job!

Of course Tyler was next and all I can say was he and his band were great just as I thought he would be. I sit today and think “Did I really just see Tyler in my hometown?” It is just crazy. He sang all the songs I know – and some I didn’t – and all he sang he sang phenomenal. The time comes and goes by so fast. I will remember each and every awesome moment last night but for Tyler I wonder if after meeting so many people how many are remembered?

Stage is getting set!

Not only did I get to stand right in the front row with my camera and take pictures and sing along and watch singing I also bought a t-shirt and a picture, which I was autographed by Tyler himself. How cool is that. They were not allowing any pictures at that point only the autographs. I have  a high school friend that I have recently reconnected with (Amanda) and she was at the concert as well.  She was kind enough to take some shots while i was handing off my picture to be signed. I guess i wasn’t standing close enough and I remember her saying to me “Hey stand closer!” She was laughing a little. I always get nervous so here is one of the shots she got. I love it. I think i look like a nut case and I love the look on Tyler’s face cause he almost confirms it. Ha! Again I will say though I was just nervous:)

Amanda and her crew and Me with mine chatted a little bit afterward. We are both fans of  OTH as well with similar stories.  Once Tyler was through signing he came over and took time to talk with fans still lingering and even took some pictures  :)  People always make so much fun of me cause I just sit in the background and listen (until you know me) – I have never been sure how to approach somebody especially someone who is so much bigger than me and is so much more important. Thankfully Jason helps me push me along. Tyler was great though. A wonderful person to take the time to chat with the fans like he did. A good guy!

Now I have two cameras. My big DSLR and my small point and shoot. I brought both to the concert last night. Before Tyler came on I pulled out my DSLR and got ready, only to realize I had left the battery at home charging and no, I do not have a spare. I was a little bummed at that point but I did bring my point and shoot so that is what I was going to use. Little did I know while listening to the awesome Tyler play Jason was talking with one of his professional photo girls. Her name is Amy Almarode. She unfortunately did not have an extra battery but she graciously took my SD card and shot a few pictures for me. She was able to go places I was not. With her pictures I am breathless, speechless. She is an AWESOME photographer!!! I cannot thank her enough for what she did. There are some beautiful pictures of Tyler and it just made my night once I got home at midnight :) So to Amy – Thank you! Thank You! Please guys go check out her Photography work on Flickr and of course Tyler’s Website. Thanks a bunch! Here are some of the extraordinary photo’s that Amy took.

Now I am going to post my photo’s. I take pride in my photo work and if you are familiar with blog you have read I love photography. However I have learned to always make sure you have all pieces to your camera. Ha! My SLR shoots so much better than my point and shoot. I still like the photo’s I took though.

Tyler

To end I am first going to apologize for such a long post. If you can’t tell I was thrilled to be seeing Tyler last night. I love music. I love Tyler’s music. I am excited for his new album that will be coming out real soon. I was so excited that he came to Lynchburg. Again as I write this post I think “Did I really go to a concert.?” I think it also it so big for me because it was one I really wanted to go to and then out of the blue unexpected I am!

I also want to mention Tyler’s wonderful charity T.H. Books for Kids I have supported and sent some books and think it great. My oldest is reading on 5/6th grade level in 3rd grade and she would not be if it weren’t partly for books school provided!

Now to close – I am sure it was long trip for Tyler and crew but I hope that he had as great of a time as I did! I hope maybe one day he will come back! I think you are a wonderful artist with a great heart! Continue making great music. Thank you Tyler!
