The Making of a Pumpkin Pie

I am not known to be the best cook of the town. I am ok with that. I can certainly follow a recipe however it may take me a few times to actually get the recipe down pat:) A couple weeks ago my family was supposed to go down to my dads to carve pumpkins. We were not all able to go because my oldest was not well so I sent Jason and Madison down.  When they returned Jason had a sticker and some words from my dad. They were…

“Your dad likes pumpkin pie and this sticker has a recipe for one on it. He wants you to take the small pumpkin and make the pie.”  I have NEVER made a pumpkin pie. I have seen them made from the can. Never from a real pumpkin. So my response was “right not”. That is when jason said ” Yeah your dad knows you and he knew you would say that.” so jason pulled out a $20 bill and said “Go make the pie! Your dad gave me $20 and said that should be enough to buy you all the ingredients needed.”

Well that kind of made it like a bet i guess so I hit the computer and googled pumpkin pie from a real pumpkin because I had no idea how to get the real squash. It was interesting. Now my pie in the end will need some more work as you will see but I did document the pumpkin part with pictures:)

Here is me in the beginning. the pumpkin and the spices and the crust. That which i did not make. Just a simple graham cracker crust requested by dad!

Madison needed to be in the picture too. You can see she had no idea what was going on:)

When you pull out of oven when the time is done you want to push down on top and make sure it is soft.

From there you want to scoop out the insides and mash them or use some beaters and beat them till they become smooth!

Now from here I did not take many more pictures. Making a pie I guess is as easy as following the directions right:) You can find a recipe that you think sounds good to you. For me I followed the one that was stuck on the bottom of the pumpkin.

Now before I show you my half eaten pie picture (because I forgot to take a picture when I pulled it out of oven) I am going to mention a few things. I used dark brown sugar instead of light because jason said try that. I think this made my pie a very very different color than it should have been. I also think this recipe had a lot of spice. Next time i do this and yes there will be a next time I will probably use a little less spice.  The last problem I ran into was my pie was a little runny.  I have yet to figure out why. It was done I know that so i have to research it a little more.

However after having several people sample my pie the consensus was my pumpkin pie made from real pumpkin was great and actually tasted like real pumpkin. My dad made many jokes toward me about my pumpkin pie but we were all smiles and I know he like it:) I might have even surprised him a little!

Next time I try to make a pumpkin pie my goal will be to have a more solid orange Pie! Ha ha!
