Bread and what?

Bread and water?… noo

Bread and butter?…noo

Ohh Bread and Milk!! Yes! That seems to be what everyone needs before the big snow storm hits! Now do not take me the wrong way as I sit today writing this post I do have bread and milk in my house. Once again it snows outside (this will be the third big storm my area has had)  In all honesty we have had a pretty darn active winter. The last few years we have been getting by pretty easy.

Whenever news of a storm starts getting out and we hear it might be a big one people begin getting crazy. Bread and Milk! Bread and Milk! Have to go the store and get Bread and Milk! What? When I ask the reasoning behind this I just get a blank stare and then the answer that the storm is coming :)

Uh? Ok.

It has been a madhouse the last few days. People crazy cause they need to get to the store to get their bread and milk :) My good friend ventured out last night (not for bread and milk but for super bowl necessities) only to find that the grocery store she went to had NO milk and NO bread. And due to the busy”ness” of the store she and children were there for 2 hours. This was not the first time she had experienced this. They were also out of several other things as well because of the super bowl weekend. Goodness gracious super bowl and snow :) Ahhh! what are we going to do! I guess listening to people talk a lot of stores were either out or running very very low on the bread and milk.

With all this wonder in my mind about the bread and the milk I decided to google what could possibly be made with “just” those two items? Sadly I did not find much :( There are lots of recipes that use bread and milk but also require many other items.  I did find one recipe though that required the use of one extra item. I am not sure how well it would taste but maybe while it is snowing crazy outside this is what everyone is making and enjoying eating -

Bread and Milk

Recipe courtesy Nigella Lawson

Prep Time: 3 min
Level:Easy
Serves:1 serving
Ingredients
2 thick slices good white bread
2 teaspoons sugar or vanilla sugar
1 cup milk
Directions
Tear the bread into rough chunks, and sprinkle
with the sugar. Warm the milk and pour over the bread and sugar to serve.

In Closing –  I am a person that cannot handle a madhouse of people like that. Especially to get into a place that ends up not having what you need. I also understand the need to make sure you have the necessities for your family in a time when the weather is looking grim outside but let me tell you what if we run out of milk –  my family is drinking water!!!!!!!

don’t forget to -

Smile :)

Too true. Bread and milk by itself does not constitute a meal, but it seems no matter what else you may have in the house, running out of milk or bread is like being without a cellphone. When you don’t have it, suddenly there is a BIG need for it!
