I am posting this picture so that we can look at it now and so I can reference it again in the near future. For this moment let’s look at all of it’s sun and warmth. All of the leaves and all of it’s greenness

As we started on the ride we came across the river boat, HENRIETTA III. Three years ago when I was down, it was spring time and they were painting the boat getting ready for summer. So it was docked. It was neat to see it out and about this time around!

As we traveled around town in our horse drawn caravan (it carried like 15 people) we came across this man writing out a message on the sidewalk. I snapped a quick shot cause i thought it looked so interesting Who doesn’t like sidewalk chalk?

Now lets check out some houses!

This is one of the oldest houses in Downtown Wilmington.

Now this I might be wrong on but I think this blue house may have been the first house bought and restored. If it wasn’t the first then it was the last. Wilmington used to be a ghost town. Tourists never came. Then it was decided there would be restoring and they would bring back the history. The arts moved in and now it is a huge place for tourists

This house has lots of columns!

The brick building behind this house is the kitchen. A lot of the houses are that way. Back in the day they were built like this because of fires. Houses were so close together if a fire broke out all the houses were at risk.

The next one is two pictures. Most of these houses had grassy driveways and they were not very wide. This was because again way long ago people had horses and carriages. In the second picture you will see a cement block. This was for the ladies. The carriages would pull up and the ladies would step out onto the block and then down onto the ground In the first picture if you look to the left (right next to Allie’s head) of the house you will see a cement looking pole. That is the hitching post.

Purple House

This house is like a doll house (different styles of houses)

This house which is next door to the doll house is from a later time period. It is simpler. (remember the date thing – I can’t remember)

Two of my FAVORITE houses. The $720 Sears and roebuck Catalog homes. You order. They ship. You put together. How cool is that! These are 1920′s houses i think.

Last but not least at the very top of this house sits the widows watch. It was named this because it sits high enough for the wife to look out over the river.  Here she would sit and wait for her husband’s return. Which back in the day… usually did not happen…
