One of the cool things about this town I will say again is the history. All the houses have been bought and restored back to what they would have looked like long ago. Now the part that sucks is my memory because as I was taking pictures I needed to be writing down what the man was saying (I am not real good with dates). So I am going to show you my pictures because I still think it&#8217;s neat to look at these houses. And I will type the things I remember and I will recommend just like with the Battleship to get the whole historical story you need to take yourself on down to Wilmington at some point and do the horse ride <img
src='http://www.madisonallie.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> You will learn lots of good things.</p><p>As we started on the ride we came across the river boat, <span
style="color: #ff0000;"><a
href="http://www.cfrboats.com/index.php" target="_blank"><span
style="color: #ff0000;">HENRIETTA III</span></a></span>. Three years ago when I was down, it was spring time and they were painting the boat getting ready for summer. So it was docked. It was neat to see it out and about this time around!</p><p><a
href="http://www.madisonallie.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/House17.jpg" rel="lightbox[5757]"><img
class="alignnone size-large wp-image-5775" title="House17" src="http://www.madisonallie.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/House17-1024x685.jpg" alt="" width="491" height="329" /></a></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>As we traveled around town in our horse drawn caravan (it carried like 15 people) we came across this man writing out a message on the sidewalk. I snapped a quick shot cause i thought it looked so interesting <img
src='http://www.madisonallie.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> Who doesn&#8217;t like sidewalk chalk?</p><p><a
href="http://www.madisonallie.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/House16.jpg" rel="lightbox[5757]"><img
class="alignnone size-large wp-image-5774" title="House16" src="http://www.madisonallie.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/House16-1024x685.jpg" alt="" width="491" height="329" /></a></p><p>Now lets check out some houses!</p><p><a
href="http://www.madisonallie.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/House14.jpg" rel="lightbox[5757]"><img
class="alignnone size-large wp-image-5772" title="House14" src="http://www.madisonallie.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/House14-1024x685.jpg" alt="" width="442" height="296" /></a></p><p>This is one of the oldest houses in Downtown Wilmington.</p><p><a
href="http://www.madisonallie.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/House15.jpg" rel="lightbox[5757]"><img
class="alignnone size-large wp-image-5773" title="House15" src="http://www.madisonallie.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/House15-1024x685.jpg" alt="" width="491" height="329" /></a></p><p>Now this I might be wrong on but I think this blue house may have been the first house bought and restored. If it wasn&#8217;t the first then it was the last. Wilmington used to be a ghost town. Tourists never came. Then it was decided there would be restoring and they would bring back the history. The arts moved in and now it is a huge place for tourists <img
src='http://www.madisonallie.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /></p><p><a
href="http://www.madisonallie.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/House12.jpg" rel="lightbox[5757]"><img
class="alignnone size-large wp-image-5770" title="House12" src="http://www.madisonallie.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/House12-675x1024.jpg" alt="" width="324" height="491" /></a></p><p>This house has lots of columns!</p><p><a
href="http://www.madisonallie.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/House11.jpg" rel="lightbox[5757]"><img
class="alignnone size-large wp-image-5769" title="House11" src="http://www.madisonallie.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/House11-1024x685.jpg" alt="" width="491" height="329" /></a></p><p>The brick building behind this house is the kitchen. A lot of the houses are that way. Back in the day they were built like this because of fires. Houses were so close together if a fire broke out all the houses were at risk.</p><p><a
href="http://www.madisonallie.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/House10.jpg" rel="lightbox[5757]"><img
class="alignnone size-large wp-image-5768" title="House10" src="http://www.madisonallie.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/House10-1024x754.jpg" alt="" width="491" height="362" /></a></p><p>The next one is two pictures. Most of these houses had grassy driveways and they were not very wide. This was because again way long ago people had horses and carriages. In the second picture you will see a cement block. This was for the ladies. The carriages would pull up and the ladies would step out onto the block and then down onto the ground <img
src='http://www.madisonallie.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> In the first picture if you look to the left (right next to Allie&#8217;s head) of the house you will see a cement looking pole. That is the hitching post.</p><p><a

The $720 Sears and roebuck Catalog homes. You order. They ship. You put together. How cool is that! These are 1920&#8242;s houses i think.</p><p><a

It was named this because it sits high enough for the wife to look out over the river.  Here she would sit and wait for her husband&#8217;s return. Which back in the day&#8230; usually did not happen&#8230;</p><p><a
