Now my kids.

Allie started the 5th grade. Somewhere inside me I feel this should be freaking me out. Why? This is her last year in elementary school!! Holy cow!!! That means middle school next year and with that comes what? I don’t know but I think this year is going to be fun!

Madison started the 1st grade. I think she is going to be ok. She is the one I worry about most. Allie knows where she is going and how she will get there. If she gets sidetracked she asks how to get back. Madison lives in her own little world and is scared to talk to anyone. I am thankful Allie has one more year in the same school as her.  That’s all I can say

They both came home today and said they had great days!! Both like teachers. Both have friends in their classes. Last year was the 1st year in this school and I drove them so this year I decided we would try out the bus. Both girls really wanted to do the bus thing. Well.. That was successful too – they made it home. So… I am hoping we will have a good year!

The morning started off with its ups and downs. Allie was up at 6:30am ready to go. She got up, went downstairs where she got dressed, did her hair, and got all her things packed together and ready to go. At 7:00 she was ready to leave. That was when I had to tell her she had another hour before it was time to walk out the door

Madison moved a bit slower this morning which made her a bit more grumpy or “diva-ish” as I like to call it. The next couple of weeks the kindergarten class is doing colors. Each day they are doing a different color. The child is supposed to wear that specific color for the day. Today’s color was brown.  Although we had picked out Madison’s outfit the night before because she was in her mood she was not thrilled at all about having to wear brown this morning.

On the way out the door I wanted to grab some 1st day photos. Allie was all for it. Madison was not I still captured a few.

I got them to school and watched them go in the door. At that point I shut my mind off. Praying they made it to their classrooms and waiting till 3 to pick them up!

3pm – Pick up time

Both girls had fabulous days and that makes my heart happy. They jumped into the car so excited to tell me about their day.

Allie – Loves all her teachers. Did a good job helping Madison to her classroom this morning and finding her own room. Is excited to be doing a time capsule. Made friends with the other new girl in the classroom. Was thrilled to learn she will be dissecting a plant after she learns ALL the plant parts. She had a great day

Madison – Loves her school. Loves that a bee is her mascot. Told me ” she was not living well in her classroom because there were way too many “m’s” and she was always confused as to where she was supposed to be. (I guess a lot of people have names that start with M) She was very excited to learn how to write a correct S. She made a friend. She colored a picture of a brown bear and told me everyone was wearing pink except her. I just laughed. Tomorrow is Red day and we have a cool red outfit for her. She had a great day and is excited to go back tomorrow!

As I breath out I think today was a great start to a good year!

Actually it was a 2.5 hour 1st day of school. The new school that both girls will be starting on Monday has an introductory day for the new kindergarteners and parents. This day happens before the 1st day of school and allows the kids to come in and spend some time with their teacher and lets the parents tour the school and meet the people who will be taking care of their children. It also goes through the process of loading and unloading the buses and car riders.

Madison was so excited. For her 2.5 hours she spent the time making a stop light which will be used for behavior purposes. She told me she always wants to stay on the green so at the end of the week she can get something out of the treasure box. She does not want to go to the red light! She told me she was able to play outside and that she met two girls whose name she had no clue She also said she did not like the chairs because they made her butt hurt. We will see how that progresses.

While she was enjoying her day Jason and I were touring the school. We met the librarian, nurse, cafeteria lady, office ladies, counselor, art teacher, PTO president, PE teacher, and the music teachers. They all spoke briefly about what they do and how much they enjoy doing it. The music teacher had us stand up and participate by dancing the chicken dance and the PE teacher had us balancing plush frogs on our heads as well as having us stand still while throwing them up in the air and clapping before catching the frogs. I will note here that it has been a while since I have been in a PE class

It was a good day and I learned a little about the school. I am hoping that both Allie and Madison have a great year this year. Madison will just be starting out and Allie is having to “start over” in a sense.
